Jon Harle
Master of Ceremonies
Orchestrating proceedings alongside Sally is a fellow radio presenter, Jon Harle. Who confirms that yes, he used to have a proper job before joining the BBC. He joined Pickfords Heavy Haulage in 1976 and spent ten years with them before hanging up his hard hat and picking up a microphone.
He’s perhaps the only person who’s interviewed two prime ministers, Alan Shearer and Sting AND has gone through the Dartford Tunnel in the steersman’s cab of a 300 ton 12-axled double swan neck girder trailer! Jon is also a recognised and valued contributor to the pages of HeavyTorque.
The Judges
Former Editor-in-Chief of Commercial Motor and Truck and Driver magazine. Since 2009 he has been a freelance journalist, video presenter and media consultant.
During his 30-years plus of reporting on the CV industry he has won a number of awards including the British Society of Magazine Editors ‘Business-to-Business Magazines Editor of the Year’, the CILT Logistics and Transport Journalist of the Year, and the Cummins CV Writer of the Year. He is a current C+E Licence holder.
Margo Cole is a very experienced writer and editor who specialises in construction, infrastructure, transport and heavy equipment. She trained as a civil engineer before becoming a journalist, and has also studied psychology to Masters level.
During a 25-year career in journalism Margo has worked on a range of business magazines, journals and websites, as well as for PR agencies, trade bodies and blue chip companies. She has been a regular freelance contributor on HeavyTorque since its second issue.
With transportation running through his blood, Bob Beech was involved with the family business from an early age. He then went on to work as a driver throughout the UK and Europe: latterly as a salesman for new and used trucks.
Bob now applies his vast technical knowledge, as Technical Editor to the pages of HeavyTorque.
John is a director of Dyne Solicitors Limited (DSL) which specialises in road transport, environmental and health and safety law. DSL has a busy transport regulatory practice with a national and international client base covering operator licensing, public enquiries, consultancy and defence work.
John is Secretary and legal adviser to the Heavy Transport Association (HTA) and Batched on Site Association (BSA).

- Those successfully shortlisted will be notified in August 2024.

- All material will remain confidential to the Judges. Details of the respective Winners and those Highly Commended will be published within HeavyTorque's official event review proceeding the event.
